Carrier Air Wing 5 Aircraft Fly In Formation At Friendship Day In Iwakuni

Iwakuni, Japan – On May 3, 2025, aircraft from Carrier Air Wing 5 flew in formation during the 46th Friendship Day at Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni.

The flyover included a CMV-22B Osprey, E-2D Hawkeye, F-35C Lightning II, F/A-18F Super Hornet, F/A-18E Super Hornet, and EA-18G Growler.

Friendship Day has been held since 1973 to strengthen bonds between the air station and its Japanese hosts.

The event offers a cultural exchange and showcases U.S.–Japan cooperation.

Carrier Air Wing 5 is the U.S. Navy’s only permanently forward deployed air wing.

It includes nine squadrons flying a range of aircraft used in carrier air warfare operations.
