Carmel, IN – The Carmel Fire Department faced a unique challenge recently when a cat became stranded 25 feet up a tree. While running into burning buildings and performing high-speed extrications are part of their routine, rescuing a frightened feline was no small task.
The cat, unsure how to get back down, was stuck high in the tree, and every movement was unpredictable. The situation was risky, as the small animal, armed with sharp claws and teeth, could easily attack the rescuer at any moment. In these cases, firefighters rely on their least experienced team member – or as they jokingly call it, “the probie.”
Despite the danger, the team responded quickly. Thanks to Engine 344, the cat was safely rescued, though the Ladder Truck was ultimately unnecessary. The brave firefighter who handled the rescue is affectionately known as Dillybars Tyler.
This rescue serves as a reminder that Carmel Fire Department’s duties extend beyond human lives to the safety of all creatures, no matter how small or fluffy.
