Bluebird Skies And Powdery Winds Create Stunning Winter Scene

Cascade Mountain, Ruby Range – On December 29, 2025, video captured a breathtaking winter scene as bluebird skies appeared after a recent snowstorm, with strong winds whipping the fresh snow into powdery clouds.

The day brought crisp temperatures, clear skies, and tapering winds, creating ideal conditions to enjoy the newly fallen snow.

Avalanche danger remains moderate in areas that received more than six inches of new snow. Experts warn that avalanches are most likely on slopes where new or drifted snow is not well-bonded to the older, firm snow beneath.

The video shows clear signs of wind-drifting: blowing snow, firm smooth “pillows” along ridgelines and gullies, and cracking or collapsing surface snow. These are indicators to avoid steep terrain and seek safer slopes without drifting snow.

Skiers and hikers are advised to check the full forecast and remain cautious in areas affected by wind-drifted snow.
