Eatonville, Washington – At Northwest Trek Wildlife Park, black bears Benton and Fern found a new favorite pastime: rolling in pine shavings.

The bears were given fresh pine shavings as enrichment, and their reactions brought joy to staff and visitors alike.

Fern embraced the moment by doing three full somersaults in the shavings.

Benton chose a different approach, stretching out and making what looked like snow angels, but in wood.

Both bears appeared fully content with their playful session.

Staff say the enrichment provides stimulation and encourages natural behaviors in the animals.

Neither Benton nor Fern seemed to have any regrets about their messy fun.
