Cottonwood Canyons, Utah – Motorists can breathe a sigh of relief as SR-210 finally reopened yesterday after a tense avalanche scare. The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) confirmed that their avalanche mitigation efforts wrapped up successfully on March 18. Commuters heading to and from AltaCentral had been on edge, but the all-clear came just in time for the evening rush.
UDOTavy teams worked tirelessly to tame the snowy beast, while UtahDOT crews battled the elements to keep the canyon roads passable. It wasn’t all smooth sailing, though. SnowbirdAlerts and AltaAlerts had warned of chaos, and they weren’t wrong. Drivers faced downhill travel delays and stop-start traffic that tested even the saintliest of tempers.
Still, the gritty determination of the crews paid off. The road’s now open, though UDOT’s not promising a bump-free ride just yet. With the PM commute in full swing, officials are urging patience as they iron out the last kinks. For now, the canyons are back in business—snow, grit, and all.
