Over The Atlantic Ocean – A U.S. Air Force Reserve team from the 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron, called the “Hurricane Hunters,” flew directly through Hurricane Melissa on Oct. 27, 2025.

The footage, recorded by Lt. Col. Mark Withee, a navigator with the 53rd WRS, shows the aircraft making repeated passes through the violent storm.

The mission aimed to gather vital meteorological data for the National Hurricane Center.
