Adorable Koala Joey At Perth Zoo Celebrated As Major Conservation Victory

Perth, Australia – On June 21st, Perth Zoo released a heartwarming video featuring a baby marsupial koala cuddling with its mother.

The zoo shared the video with excitement, stating, “Okay, another joey post because we are OBSESSED.”

But the joey is more than just a cute face. It marks a major conservation milestone for the regionally coordinated breeding program.

First-time mother Mindjil and father Laurie arrived at Perth Zoo last year, just in time for the breeding season.

The fact that they welcomed a joey in their first season together shows the outstanding care provided by the Australian fauna keepers.

As a marsupial, the koala joey spent its early months developing inside the mother’s pouch while suckling.

Now, at around seven months old, the joey has already been spotted munching on eucalyptus leaves.
