Perth, Australia – On April 29, Perth Zoo shared a charming video of Cerro, their Galapagos Tortoise, enjoying a flower snack.
The zoo captioned the clip with, “Flower power,” adding that Cerro seems to love nothing more than a flower treat delivered by one of his favorite keepers.
Cerro is nearly 60 years old. He was born at San Diego Zoo and arrived at Perth Zoo in 2005 with his younger brother, Sierra.
Galapagos Tortoises are the largest tortoises in the world. Cerro belongs to a species that is considered vulnerable to extinction, with fewer than 20,000 individuals remaining in the wild.
The main threats to wild Galapagos Tortoises include introduced predators like rats, dogs, and cats. These animals often eat tortoise eggs and young tortoises, reducing survival rates.
