Rome, Italy – On June 2, 2025, at 14:47, seven activists from BRUCIAMO TUTTO staged a nonviolent protest at the Altare della Patria. They aimed to support the June 8-9 referendums on citizenship and labor rights.
Three activists unfurled a white banner from the monument’s balcony, showing “YES” and “NO” boxes with “YES” crossed out, protesting efforts to undermine the referendums. Three others scattered damaged, partially burned referendum ballots on the steps, symbolizing democracy under threat. They tried sharing testimonies of people, like migrants seeking easier citizenship and workers needing better protections, but were interrupted.
One activist filmed the action. Security tore down the banner, but the group redisplayed it on the upper steps. No police arrived, and the activists left voluntarily.
Giulia, an activist, said: “We’re here to contest the sabotage of the June 8-9 referendums. Voting is a right—women fought for it, and we won’t let it be taken away.”
